To eliminate barriers so all people have the right to make their own decisions and exercise control over their own lives. All people have the right to pursue success and take risks.
Profile
Independent Connection Inc. is a Center for Independent Living, which means we are a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross disability, non-residential, private, non-profit agency that provides an array of independent living services in 9 counties (Jewell, Mitchell, Lincoln, Ellsworth, Cloud, Republic, Ottawa, Dickinson, & Saline).
Our 6 core services include:
- Advocacy (Individual & Systems): We advocate at local, state, and federal levels for integration, public access, and policy changes that will create new opportunities for the disability community.
- Information & Referral: We provide information about services and resources that promote independence and access in the community.
- Peer Services (Individual & Group): We provide support for the emotional ups and downs of a disability by group and individual support.
- Independent Living Skills Training: We teach skills people want to learn to make changes in their lives by providing independent living skills training, include budgeting and home management.
- Youth Transitions: We provide services that support youth as they transition into adulthood from high school.
- Returning Home: We support moving out of a nursing facility, institution, or returning home from treatment or a hospital.
Additional Services Include but are not limited to:
- Employment: We complete referrals to employment services to assist in finding a job, provide assistance with adjustments needed in a job, or complete pre-employment training.
- Housing: We assist with finding accessible and affordable housing and support if landlord/tenant concerns arise.
- Community Education: We deliver presentations and trainings about disability issues.
- Americans with Disabilities Act: We offer compliance consultation, help with making a business and a community accessible, and assistance with understanding laws related to disabilities.
